The markets, and when they open
All six of Zurich's official Christmas markets open on 19 November 2026 — the dates are confirmed on zuerich.com. Most run to 23 December; the Main Station (100+ stalls under a towering tree and shimmering polar lights) and Münsterhof (historic facades, Zurich brands) both extend to 24 December. The Zürcher Weihnachtsallee on Europaallee adds global street food, design stalls, a karaoke bar and a fondue chalet; the Old Town 'Dörfli' on Rosenhof pairs artisan crafts with a children's ice rink; Bellevue Noël — the Opera House market's new name since 2026 — has a walkable wreath and another fondue chalet; and Werdmühleplatz runs daily choral concerts alongside organic local produce. All are open from late afternoon into the evening and none run after Christmas Day. Confirm the hours for each market on its official page before you go.
Getting there — and the car-free reality
Zurich's old town and the lakeside squares sit inside a dense, largely pedestrian core with limited, expensive short-term parking, and the markets are busiest after dark when the trains and trams are full. If you are flying into Zurich Airport or staying outside the centre, a door-to-door private transfer removes the parking problem: your driver sets you down at the closest legal stopping point to each market and collects you when you are ready, bags and all.
Why travellers book a private transfer for the markets
Swiss Touristy has run private, fixed-price transfers across Switzerland for 25+ years. You see the full price for your route before you travel — no meter, no surprises. Airport pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting from your effective arrival time and a meet-and-greet at arrivals, and every quote allows free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. It fits exactly who the markets draw: families with young children, visitors carrying gifts and shopping, and groups who would rather stay together than split across late-evening trains.
